Boom Bust Recovery project

RECOVERY
. Franklin D. Roosevelt – This is a picture of the president Franklin Roosevelt. The reason I chose this picture is because it’s good to remember such a strong president who had undergone so many accusations and hard times with his country happy.
. The new deal – This is a picture of a hand of cards. The reason I chose this picture is because like the program Roosevelt set up, it ensured a whole new card game with fair chances to win and to lose, but it was new and fair.
. 100 Days – This sis a picture of President Roosevelt in his first 100 days in office. The reasoning behind choosing this picture is that he looks stressed out and worried, which is totally expected due to the conditions of our country at the time.
.FDIC (Glass-Steagall Act) – This is a picture of the FDIC logo or sign. The reason I chose this picture is because it was the most commonly known and seen sign for FDIC at the time,
. SEC (Federal Securities Act) – This is a picture of the S.E.C.’s symbol. The reason that I chose this picture is because, like an eagle, helped the U.S. soar into honesty and non misleading accusations pertaining to the stock market.
. Social Security Act – This is a picture of a social security card. The reason I chose this picture is because it was a replica of the first card to be distributed. (It was given to President Franklin Delano).
. Motion Pictures – This is a picture of Eadweared Muybridge. The reason I chose this picture is because Muybridge was a very famous motion picture artists right after the Great Depression.
. TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) – This is a picture a dam built in the Tennessee Valley. The reason I chose this picture is because it shows the dam really well, so you can see how much work was applied by the workers, and also so you can see how much energy must be created by a dam that big.
. NYA (National Youth Administration) – This is a picture of some women in an office that were in the National Youth Administration. The reason I chose this picture is because it is women in it. It shows the difference between the NYA and the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) because the CCC didn’t have young women training and job opportunities.
. CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) – This picture is of young men who were involved in the CCC. The reason I chose this picture is because it was one of the first to be taken of this group, and they looked so happy and kind of excited, and I think that they were proud to be in and represent this new group.

BUST

. Herbert Hoover – This is a picture of former President Herbert Hoover. The reason I chose this picture is because his facial expression looks so smug and fake, just like how his presidency was that screwed everyone over.
. Stock Market – This is a graph of stock market highs and lows. The reason I chose this picture was to show the extreme extent of which the stock market fell.
. Great Depression – This is a picture of a mother and her children during the great depression. The reason that I chose this picture was to show how the great depression had its name for a reason. You can see it in her eyes and in her furrowed brow how bad that period had an effect on the people and the economy. You can see it all in her face.
. Dust bowl – This is a picture of some houses about to be taken over by a cloud of dust during a dust storm. I chose this picture because it looks so crazy, and apparently that how bad it really was during a storm. I couldn’t even imagine.
. Hoovervilles – These are some of the many Hoovervilles that were very numerous and common during the Great Depression. The reason I chose this picture was because it really shows how bad these were; with the scrap tin roofs and some without doors.
. Soup Kitchens – This is a picture of 4 men eat their rations at a soup kitchen. The reason I chose this picture is because you can see how thin their faces are and how content the men look eat, which in a nut shell shows us how important these kitchens were to men (and women, children, etc.).
. The Grapes of Wrath – This is the cover of the book, the Grapes of Wrath. The reason I chose this as the picture was because I thought it appropriate, given that we’re talking about the book.
. Black Tuesday – This is a picture I pulled off of Google when I typed in black Tuesday. This is an awful picture to describe that day, but I chose it to show that the people in this picture are even equal to .1% of the people who were affected by this awful day in time.
. Great Depression’s effects of city dwellers – This is a picture of a part of a city during the great depression. The reason I chose this picture is because it is really portraits the city at, hopefully, it’s worst.
. Bread Lines- This is a picture of a bread line. The reason I chose this picture is because even though they’re smiling the camera, It shows the thickness and how long the line was.

BOOM

. Red Scare – This picture is supposed to represent the red scare. I chose this picture because the figure is unknown, and you can’t see its face, which represents the unknowingness of this period, but it’s still there.
. “Negro leagues” – This is a picture of Jackie Robinson. The reason I chose this picture of him is because he looks so intent and focused, which is what I imagine he to be present to be successful in this new and strange to the world league.
. Harlem renaissance – This is a picture that was created during the Harlem Renaissance. I chose it because I know that music and dance were a huge part of this period, and so was art, so something that combined all three made me figure that I had pretty much summed it all up.
. Amelia Earhart – This is a picture of Amelia Earhart. I chose this picture because her facial expressions show me optimism and independence, which is exactly how I would describe her through her personality and achievements.
. Langston Hughes – This is a picture of Langston Hughes. I chose this picture because although he was a writer and poet who expressed deep and meaningful feeling about his culture, he also had a funny side. I thought this picture showed it and I just thought that it fit.
. NAACP – This is a picture of the NAACP symbol. I chose this picture because it was the most recognized symbol for this group, and like the group, the symbol was straight forward about the things that it wants and wants people to know.
. Bessie Smith – This is a picture of the very popular blues singer, Bessie Smith. I chose this picture because I think that a picture says 1 million words, and she just looked so happy doing what she did best: singing.
. Zora Neale Hurston – This is a picture of the author and folklorist Zora Hurston. The reason I chose this picture is because
. Radio technology and its effects – This is a picture of a radio. The reason I chose this picture was because this is what they probably looked like back in that day.
. Scopes Trial – This is a picture of a monkey that is supposed to be representing John Scopes. I chose this picture because he was sitting there in court saying that he didn’t remember if he had taught the children about evolution, basically saying what the monkey is in the picture.

changes - activity 1, unit 7

  1. This blog's topic is about if we think that people only change after something bad happens. This is true in some ways. Say a few friends were drinking and one of them got in an accident and died. The rest of the friends might change their ways and stop partying all of the time, which they wouldn't have done at that time unless their hadn't died. Although the above is true, there are some situations where people do change without something devastating happening. Sometimes people just have realizations, which are powerful enough to change their ways. Say someone was really stressed out and was pushed to take a week or too off of work. Supposedly they go to the mountains, and the fresh air, open spaces, etc., cleared their mind and made them realize how they need to make time for themselves, because life isn't all about work. then again, there are some situations and some certain people who don't ever change, at all. I'm not sure why, but I definitely know some people that are like that. You know, and sometimes there may be a person who is just so used to living alone and doing things their own way, that when someone confronts them about something that they might need to change, they don't even take it in to consideration and they think it's ridiculous. The sad thing about it is they aren't refusing it and knowing it's true on the inside, but they actually can't see it. So I guess that you couldn't say that all of these examples contradict themselves, but that's how I see that question that I was asked.

unit 6 - assignment 6

I think that the United States has DEFINITELY don't it's share of getting into other countries affairs. Such as one that we're currently involved in right now, which is the Iraq war. If you can tell me what we're actually fighting, then that would be GREAT. I know that we're trying to end terrorism, but come on now! Obviously we're not doing any good what so ever. Also, they say that we're trying to help them form a government. People are capable of doing things themselves. If enough people want a certain type of government, then they will have a certain type of government. It's SO NOT our business about who's doing what inside their own country on the other side of the world.
When the U.S. interveined with the war on freedom between Cuba and Spain, In a way it was a good thing. It was kinda good because the U.S. helped Cuba gain it's Independence from Spain. Although that was good, part of the peace agreement when the war was over was that the U.S. gained control of certain countries, such as the Philippines, Guam, etc. So all in all, we should have just stayed out of it anyways, because, god, it's all the way over there, you know? I don't understand why the U.S. feels like they have to control and fix and help every other country in the world. next thing you know we'll be in China trying to make their communist government democratic.

act. 1 - unit 6

So the question that I'm being asked is if it's okay to get involved in other people's business. Most of the time, you should keep your mouth shut and just not get involved, because of two things. One, is that you honestly don't know what you're getting yourself into and what the repercussions are. Two is that sometimes it's hard to tell if the people even want you in their business, so just to be on the safe side, just stay to your self. There are those unique situation where someone asks for your opinion or your help, and when that time comes, if you feel alright about it, then more power to you. You just really have to think about it from your prospective (obviously), but also from the other person's, and about what will happen in the end (and the effect of that on you).
One situation where I have gotten into someone else's business was when two of my friends were fighting, and I was trying to help them work it out, but as I pushed and pushed my way into the situation, there were a lot of things that I shouldn't have found out..and didn't want to know. By the time i realized that I should have stayed out of it, it was too late, and I almost lost a good friend.

los problemas de dinero

Does money lead to happiness? I think not. Some people may think that it does, but in the end, being lonely and rich doesn't make you happy. A lot of people are drivin to do certain things by the want for money. Some examples of things that people do when they want money is sell drugs, steal, want material things, etc. People that have money are no better than anyone else, in the way of personality and morals. They may be better off, due to our economy these days, but not better people. How certain people get rich is a mystery to me. It all depends on the situation of the person. Say they worked really hard through school andgot themselves a really good job as a lawyer, and they got rich, that would be because of themselves. Although that is the situation, there are some situations where people inherit company's or money, and that's how they're rich. The people that are very rich do not have a responsibility to share with others, but it might make them sleep a little better a night.

assignment 8 - poems

On April 12, my mind wasn’t right
Let my master do it, pull my trigger tight
I gave in, didn’t think much of it
But the North got mad and had a fit

Only one decision is what it took
The south didn’t turn back, didn’t even look
A war against brothers is what I started
My pride got in the way, became unguarded

What I started guaranteed no going back
Men stood up and grabbed a haversack
Got a housewife and replica of me
They though that I was the key

Now so many are dead and gone
Pickets scared to blink, or even to yawn
Not even shebangs are found now
Not a single horse or cow

On April 12, my mind wasn’t right
Let my master do it, pull the trigger tight
It was wrong and I feel really bad
It was really wrong, and now I’m mad
….BANG!!!

- Pvt. Ruffin’s Rifle

A Horrifying scream is the first thing I heard
A tree rattled, it even scared a bird
The grass is muddy; no it’s just stained with blood
I hear another scream; a leg falls with a thud

Another man done, and blood splatters on my walls
The man next in line suddenly passes out and falls
A nurse from behind tosses the leg to a pile
It’s big; it’s been growing for a while

The so called surgeon is pale and calm
No sweat on his body, not even his palm
He is used to the dead, he sees it every day
But I’m not quite sure that he’ll ever be okay

There are mostly jonas that stand outside my walls
They see what’s next, one sits and balls
But they know it’s got to happen, the infection has grown
So they just sit, all alone

All these dead and wounded make me really upset
Everyone will die, now that I will bet
If this madness doesn’t stop soon, I will have to go
Let the wind take me and just fly, flow
